I gathered together the words written by the participants during an event on Cow Strand, along with words from individuals living in Direct Provision and articles taken from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These pages were then folded up and set into 15 individual concrete tent maquettes. Using a kayak, I brought these tents across the water to a small, difficult to access island in the Cúinne. From the roadside two viewfinders were set up facing the island and the barely visible campsite.

While in the previous work the viewer/participant might have felt frustration at having to wait so long, Out of Sight, Out of Mind aims to provoke both the spectator, who cannot fully view the sculpture, and the participant, whose carefully formulated words cannot be heard.

These projects aim to address how we as a nation are currently responding to the refugee crisis.
